Exchanges use a price-time priority system that executes orders based on when they were placed. When you place a limit order, it receives a timestamp. If multiple orders exist at the same price, the exchange fills the oldest ones first.
Even when a stock reaches your limit price, your order may not execute right away if there are older pending orders at that price. Your order will execute only after these earlier orders are filled.
