Why can't some holdings be pledged?

Modified on Mon, 26 May, 2025 at 12:20 PM

Securities may be ineligible for pledging if:

  • They're not on the exchange-approved list of eligible securities

The approved list is updated by NSE between the 20th–25th of each month

  • The stock's Value at Risk (VAR) is 100%. Such stocks are considered too risky for margin. Additionally, if a pledged stock's VAR reaches 100%, you cannot pledge more of it.
